Star Trek Q&A

Okay so im in the Market to join a new MMO. Right Now im looking at Space MMO's but i have one kind in particular that im interested in. When I play a space game I prefer the side with carrier tech. Whether its a RTS or a 3rd person single ship combat doesn't bother provided I can work to get access to a carrier either in my fleet or as my ship (respectively). I prefer the later. Now then, i have been doing extensive research into this subject but have come up with very Little. I only know about 2 maybe 3 games that players can have a carrier as their SHip in. The first is STO, Star Trek online on the Klingon side and now with the new Atrox Carrier on the Fed side. I already have my Carrier, the klingon Vo'qov. The next game is the upcoming Nexus Conflict. I think this game may allow the players to launch fighters from their ships. Whether they auto launch and fight on their own or are triggered doesn't concern me.In regards to Nexus Conflict however i have no proof or piece of evidence that we can do the above mentioned activity. The third is EVE online but no matter where i look i cant tell if a EVE player can upgrade their ship to act as a carrier craft instead of direct fire ships like a dreadnought. If anyone can confirm this that will help. Now to the question. As i have said im looking for a space MMO where i can use a carrier ship as my pilot-able craft. I prefer this support role for my own reasons. My research into the current online games hasn't shown me very much and i would like to know if anyone may know a good Space MMO where i can play a carrier ship or craft. I like to see newer games rather than old but i believe game play is also important. Any suggestions and can you describe them?Whether the game is pay to play or Free to play is important to mention.

OK so my geometry teacher is doing me a huge favor by grading like an entire semester of work after school is out, since I started the year late. She's a huge Star Trek fan too, so I was wondering if I could quote some Star Trek to lighten the situation (she's not mad, but obviously she is kind of annoyed)

I mean, it's like adding Star Trek to Star Wars and acting like the two different shows are really in the same universe, right?

It focuses on many important issues. Like when Tuvak and Neelix became one. One of many.

As stated, I want to start watching Star Trek. With so many to start from I was wondering, can someone give me a good one to start with? Should I just go by the first made or start off with a later/better one to get me interested then start from the start later. Or should I start with just the movies then series, or the other way? I have watched the latest movie and loved it, also watched SG1, Atlantis, Firefly(loved) and a bit of Battlestar.

It had a man all by himself arriving at a house in the woods (seemingly in the middle of nowhere), it looked kind of cabin-like but very large, I believe there were lots of wood planked walkways and decks. The trees were very tall. He seemed like he was going to be staying there for a while (I think he had bags with him) and I remember that the house itself started doing strange things, like the walls and floors moved by themselves and changed or something. I saw this trailer in the theater and never saw it again. I don't remember what movie it was shown before but I think movies I might have seen at the time were Star Trek, Wolverine, Terminator Salvation, and New Moon.

Where the Enterprise goes to Star Fleet HQ to investigate rumors of strange orders and high command members attempt to infect Picard and Riker with insectoid aliens that are infiltrating the federation? It's a follow-up to an earlier episode called "Contagion". Sorry about the misspelling at the beginning - that was supposed to be "What's" Oops - sorry, "Contagion" IS the episode I was looking for.

im doing this dorky kind of a card for my bf its for his exams to say goodluck, i have a star trek quote its klingon and ive titles of games put into what im saying to him in the card. i need a good quote tho from a game maybe MGS or HALO or MASS EFFECT or even DARK SOULS, i just need a good quote any game quote or a quote from batman or something? anybody have any good ones? this is the last thing ive to put in his card :) thanks x

Here is the catch though, it has to be a show that was made and aired before the 21st century. Mine is the original Star Trek, haha.

So one of my closest guy friends in the world is graduating this month (I've known him since we were really little, probably around 2. He's 18 now.) I love him a ton and want to get him a great graduation present but nothing too cliche. I've got a few ideas but would also like any ideas/suggestions you have. He will be leaving for the Navy in december. He is one of those guys who is very creative. He used to make stop-motion videos from clay when we was younger (10-11 years old). He loves legos, star-trek, star wars, xbox games that involve legos or starwars (those are his favorite things that I can think of off the top of my head). He likes cheesecake and twix..We go camping together a lot and our families have get together a lot. ANYWAY ... what are some great ideas for gifts? I dont want it to be something that he will throw away in a week, like a card or something. Thanks!

I have recently discovered the series Star Trek: TNG. I never thought that I would be into something like it but have fallen in love with the show. I am currently about halfway through the 2nd season. Here is my question though. I would also like to watch the motion picture movies as well. I dont want to watch them prematurely and ruin anything for myself. At which point in the series should I watch each movie? I have just seen the episode with the first encounter with borg.

He said spoke like he knew of the star fleet base on the ice planet, and he seemed to lead Kirk to this base, but he was living in a cave warming himself with a fire... Just curious, is there an explanation?

Picard Kirk Riker Janeway Spork Sisko Archer Data Chakotay I've only watched Voyager and TNG, so I haven't added all the 1st officers, (I added data cause I think he's a good captain. My list Picard Riker Kirk Janeway Data SIsko Archer Chakotay- he sounds too soft and if he was captain of voyager, they would have surrendered to the kazoos

As you all know J.J Abrams directed the newish movie "Star Trek" I was just wondering if they are planning on making a sequal? I would be surprised if they didb'nt because the first one was such a success.

Please, in which number Stsr trek film is Eric Bana? Thx!

There's a guy I know, and I was wondering what his sun sign (or any other sign for that matter) was. Is there a way to guess this stuff? If so, please let me know. For those of you who have the time to help me stalkerishly guess his sign, here's some info: -He's a blondie with blue eyes. His back tans well, but nothing else really does (poor him). He likes to wear simple graphic tees like Beatles shirts and Star Trek shirts, and is more of a grinner than closed mouth smiler. Also, he's pretty muscular. -He does tae kwon do. Has a black belt. -He's a people person and was homecoming king (or duke or whatever it is they elect out of the freshman class at his school) his freshman year. -He loooooooooves music. Black sabath, greenday and the beatles are favorite of his. And he plays guitar. -He also likes reading. His favorite books tend to lie within scifi like Ender's Game and some George Orwell classics. -He likes joking around. Sort of a flirt. He'll jokingly compliment himself now and then, but is a pretty humble guy generally. -Good with kids Anyone got any guesses? I know this is a weird question. It's sort of stalkerish too. But I'm super bored, so whatever. But truth be told, I'm actually trying to figure out if we're compatible (it's important). Thanks, everyone Forgot to add, he's born sometime in february...I think. But if that's true, I have absolutely no idea when in february. I guess that makes him either a pisces or an aquarius, but still, I'm not entirely sure if he was born in february.

please don't state websites that have forums to fill write a website that really works thank you.

where did this come from, besides the Star Trek: DS9 episode ,"Far Beyond The Stars."

mine is spock

It's about a group of people who go up into space (in the future, so it's a spaceship like in star trek or solaris or something) and halfway through the journey they all get knocked out & the ship shuts down...when they wake up they are on a strange empty planet and have no fuel. Then one of the crew is found dead, they do tests and it shows that he's been strangled by a human male, it has to be someone on the ship cos no one else is on the planet...more stuff happens and more of them die which I cant be bothered to explain cos people will get bored reading it all, basically there's this gas on the planet that possesses people and while possessed they kill one another. I need a title. Rude/mean answers or joke answers will be reported and deleted. Best answer gets 10 points. Thanks x

Hey, I have know idea why girls in my year group don't like to hang out with me at school, I liturally have only one friend -.- they all think I'm weird because I eat real meals not cellary sticks, I don't care about fashion, I don't talk about boys that often, I don't read girly books nor watch girly or romantic movies, I like Star Wars, Star Trek, X-man, The matrix, Jurassic Park! I still watch Disney movies, I like playing videogames more than shopping, apparently I'm immature, I don't want to be having babies at 14, I'm curvy apparently you have to be like a stick insect. I hate Justin beiber and one direction! I'm sick of it and when I do make friends they turn on me, talk behind my back, always being nice and I'd help them out with homework them they act like they don't know me!! idk what to do :'( Please don't judge me I get that alot, I've tried talking to people about it they ignore me, I'm not doing this for attension i just want friendly advice on what can I do in my situation :)

Does anyone remember seeing this in theaters? 3 members of my family could swear that just before Khan died, he was laying on the ground, saw the Enterprise streak away at warp speed, looked dismayed and then died. The scene does not appear on any of the DVDs or video tapes of the movie, but the three of us are fairly certain it was in the original theatrical release. Does anyone else remember this, or are we just wishfully thinking? Fifth wheel. You may have seen the movie dozens of times on DVD or video tape, but did you actually see it dozens of times in the theater when it was first released?

-Looking for new tv shows to watch! Id appreciation any recommendations of new shows! :) -Love shows with people that have special/super/supernatural abilities or powers. Shows like HEROES, Kyle XY, Vampire Diaries, No Ordinary Family, and Binoic Woman I have watched and really liked/loved. I started watching Smallville but only watched the first 5episodes. I didn't really have an interest in it but if anyone says its really good/gets better Il watch it! I heard about a show called Alphas, anyone seen it? -I also like some sci fi shows! favorite two are probably V and Star Trek Voyager. Heard BattleStar Gallactica was good. Any comments? -Other random shows I like include NCIS, Pretty Little Liars, Rizzoli & Isles, LOST, Law & Order, Terra Nova. -Any recommendations are greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

I don't get why those TV network managers keep dumping the good shows. Some of the ones I liked were Harsh Realm, Threshold, The Event, Flash Forward and Star Trek Enterprise. Seems like they always blame the low ratings and somehow they never asked me what I thought of the shows.

I want to know what everyone thinks. I don't just want a "who would kick who's ass". I want to know why one or the other appealed to you and why the other didn't. If you haven't seen one or the other you don't have the right to put that one down just because it's "gay" (aka to complicated for your brain to even concept it). Then i want some answers on how battle between the two would turn out. I'm not limiting any of the battles to a certain type of people on either the wars or trek side. But if your gonna be like... "Star Wars would PWN Star Trek" give proof. It's that simple.... :P

I'd like to see a continuing story style show based on the TNG, DS9, Voyager time line. It'd be nice if some of the old stars came back and had reoccurring roles. An in depth space war drama revolving around the collapse of the Federation and the ensuing anarchy of the Alpha quadrant and the always constant threat of the Borg. I imagine 7 of 9 and Picard getting together, because Jean-Luc's a pimp like that, and because of their shared Borg past.

I know for people who like star trek it's a trekkie (I'm one so I'd know lol) but what about star wars people? What are they called?

I see all these people quoting Kirk going 'KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!" I don't get it, and don't have the movie to find out. (Or know which it is) Also when in the movie does he yell it would help? Thx!

Once it comes out there's no turning back. We have primitive people with weapons they have no business having. Have you ever heard of the prime directive? "In the universe of Star Trek, the Prime Directive, Starfleet's General Order #1, is the most prominent guiding principle of the United Federation of Planets. The Prime Directive dictates that there can be no interference with the internal development of alien civilizations." Well shìt got fúcked up here, I think. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime_Directive

I'm a computer/electronics kind of geek. I I already carry a pen with me. Name 5 other things or more. also I'm not into star wars and the star trek and those kind of things. Also im into engineering but electronics engineering. So what should a geek always carry with him?

Today I went to see the Avengers for fun and ended up crying because it was so good. Immediately after that I watched Iron Man...amazing. I've never watched any superhero movies except for the X-men series (which I LOVED). Now I'm thinking of watching all of these: Incredible Hulk, Thor, Spiderman, Batman, Captain America. Also, I have no idea about any of these things: ET, Forrest Gump, Raiders, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings...Help me out here!! I am seriously deprived lol. I just want to watch the movies. So what exactly should I watch and which films are the best ones?

Hey there! Okay, so I am 17 years old (female), and I am an exchange student in Germany. About 1 year ago, at school (in the USA), out of nowhere, I began to lose my vision. Everything just became trails of light and blurs. Also, there was this numbness that fell over the back of my neck, and I could hardly hold my head up. Then my tongue began to swell and I started to panic. I was rushed to the nurses office, and they wanted to call an ambulance, but my mom came quickly enough and took me to my Kaiser Permanente doctor's office. And my mom told me what happened because I don't remember. There, my doctor too wanted to call an ambulance, because she said I needed to get to an emergency room. Still, ambulances are expensive, so my mom drove to to the ER. Okay, so long story short, I was there for 10 hours. I couldn't speak and that circling numbness kept coming and falling over me. It also hurt to see, and it felt like the Earth was tilting back and forth (oh and by the way, I have never done drugs, and I am not on any medication). At the hospital, I got two CT scans (or CAT scans, I'm not sure), and I threw up nearly 10 times. Anyways, they couldn't figure out what was going on. At first, they thought maybe I was having a stroke. Then, they said meningitis, but the results came back negative. Well, anyways, they released me because they couldn't do anything else. And, a year later, it's never happened again, and I have had no symptoms of it or anything. That is, until very recently. About two months ago, I was watching Star Trek TOS, and suddenly, the whole world turned sideways. Like, I saw the horizon of the room turn almost vertical. I yelped and placed my hands out to catch me, but I then quickly realized that I was not falling (and the earth was not being tipped over!). My friends were with me, and they freaked out and thought I was like high or something, but they all know that I don't do drugs! My eyes felt cross eyed after this, and I had a very bad headache the rest of the night. This instance of the Earth feeling like it is turning upside down has happened maybe 7 times since. And at random times during the day in random weeks. A few weeks ago, I got a pounding headache that lasted for two weeks. I could hardly stand because it felt like the weight of my head would topple me over. Then, it just suddenly vanished. Now, for about a week, my eyes are trying to go crosseyed, and those trails of blurry light are returning. Like, if I move, or something else moves, I see an after image of it, and I hear a fluttering sound in my ears. This is about all of the information I can give, because I honestly don't know what's going on. I am concerned. Do you think I may be developing a brain tumor or serious nervous system problems?

Star Trek fans might know what I'm talking about. The Borg are essentially a race who seek to dominate the universe by assimilating worlds as their overall goal is to become the perfect life-form. The similarities are uncanny. Besides Muslims going on a pilgrimage to pray before the Kaaba, which practically means "cube", the same shape vehicle the Borg cruise the galaxy in, they both seek to spread dominance across civilizations by conquest and assimilation. They are possessed of an innate belief of being the perfect life form, which provides them with similar motivation to bring all sentient life forms into their Ummah of perfection. The Borg, upon visiting a world set for assimilation, they first give an invitation, offering to raise them to perfection. If they resist, then they declare all-out war, assimilating all the survivors into their collective. Jihadists invite the non-Muslims in whatever territory they are expanding into, to embrace Islam, as the perfect religion of peace. And if they refuse to convert, the Muslims may make war upon them and kill them, unless the infidels acknowledge the superiority of Islam and submit to its temporal rule over their lives and property, where they can pay jizya taxes. The Borg aren't so "generous". These are just my assumptions I drew from observable similarities. What are your opinions? Bonus Fact: The phaser weaponry and aesthetics of Borg 'culture' has a strong emphasis on green colors, which was coincidentally Mohammad's favorite color.

I know it's still small compared to most movie collections. And large compared to others. As a movie fanatic. This is indeed quite small. But in this economy. I'm thinking about empathy. Feeling the pain of others. No one really likes to exercise their empathy because it hurts. It makes you flinch inside. But if we all felt a little more pain, perhaps there would be a little less apathy and a little bit better world. And, seemingly paradoxically, a little less pain. Supply-side pain-o-nomics in action. Source: Star Trek - The Immunity Syndrome Bones: "Suffer the death of thy neighbor, eh, Spock? You wouldn't wish that on us, would you?" I have never cried when I was happy. I was on cloud nine. I smiled instead. Why do some people especially women tend to cry on happy occasions and for no other reason too? I find it difficult to cry at times. Is it because I am a mature middle aged man or am I a cold less asshole? However, I did cry when Captain Kirk died at the end of Star Trek Generations and when Data was killed on board the humungous Romulan Warbird in Nemesis.

Watching Star Trek with my Bf when out of the blue he asks me if the name Star Trek is significant in the series and if it's ever said... I had no clue... so Now I ask you.

So i started watchung start trek next gen and watched wrath of khan and see that spock dies. But then, he shows up on romulous in next gen. Whats up? Is next gen an alternate timeline? How did spock comeback!?

I need to write a short story for school on justice. I require a situation where it would be viable to sacrifice one (or a few) persons to save everyone else. Sort of like Tarsus IV in Star Trek. Help, please? X.x

Ok, I have to admit, I don't know much about Star Trek, but I assume they have an actual military, you know, for ground ops like liberation's and such, I don't know much about their weapon capabilities either, but I'm looking for somebody who does know this to answer the following question. Ok, The UNSC is defending a planet. Not lets just say there was a splinter cell of humanity that became the Federation. They for some crazy reason go to war.(I really don't care why, If you could think of a realistic reason why that would be awesome) They send a fleet(how many ships are in one of there fleets?) to attack a planet, lets call this planet Tycho. There are three ODP(Orbital Defense Platforms) and a battle-group of one Carrier, Three Marathon class heavy cruisers, two Halcyon light cruisers, and six Paris-Class Heavy Frigates. They all have shields(do Star Trek ships have shields?) They prepare to duke it out for control of the planets orbit. Who wins? What tactics are used? Who bad are the losses? Next, lets say while the fleets were brawling the Federation managed to land a field army(do they even have those?) on the surface. Waiting for them are 60,000 marines, 2500 tanks and supporting arms, and 2600 combat aircraft, 150 ODST's, and one squad of SPARTAN IV's commanded by a SPARTAN II. Who wins? Why? Who bad are the losses? what tactics are used. Please, only people with knowledge of both universes answer. No one word answers. Support you answer. Strengths Vs. Weaknesses chart(or how ever you want to do it), and make sure what you type can be read. DETAIL IS KEY. BTW, no super weapons.

Originally I was sceptical of the Star Trek movie reboot but I was very much won over and it got me thinking of what could be done in such a similar way for my favourite Star Trek series. Admittedly the thought of different actors playing iconic characters such as Picard, Riker, Data etc is at first bizarre but I would be very much open to how it could all pan out. My choices are:- .Captain Jean-Luc Picard as Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort from Harry Potter films, Ammon Goeth from Schindlers' list etc), .Brandon Routh as Commander William T. Riker (Superman from Superman Returns), .Jim Parsons as Lt. Commander Data (Sheldon Cooper from the Big Bang Theory), .Dijmon Hounsou as Lt. Commander Geordi LaForge (Gladiator, The Island), .Jason Momoa as Lt. Worf (Conan The Barbarian), . Emily Watson as Dr. Beverley Crusher (Reba Macclaine from Red Dragon), .Jamie Lynn-Sigler as Counsellor Deanna Troi (Meadow Soprano in The Sopranos), If such a potential Re-Boot was ever made, Other characters could be re-imagined such as Q (who could be played by Vincent Cassell) and Lt Tasha Yar (a difficult choice, maybe Viva Bianca from Starz' Spartacus series). What would be your choices if this ever happened? Who do you think could honour the original actors but bring something new and do justice? Gavin - I like Noel Clarke as Geordi LaForge, that is an inspired choice. I was also thinking Joseph Fiennes would be a good second choice for Captain Picard also.

The only editions of the original series (60's, Kirk & Spock, for those that need their memories jogged) I have seen for sale are the versions that replaced the original effects with new CGI effects and added a few more CGI shots here and there too. I was told once that the only way to see the series in its non-CGI form was to get downloads or old VHS tapes and pay to transfer them to DVD. Is this really the only way? Thanks in advance A.M

OK, it is Star Trek so it is SI-FI. So please skip the negative replies. Has anyone described what Hyper-Space might be like? Apparently (a) it only exists if you fly faster than light, and (b) everything in NOT SOLID, so you never crash into anything while in hyper-space.

I don't know if this is normal for some people, but sometimes when I am in a room with a bunch of people, like a class, I can sense everyone's disposition toward a certain individual. Here is what I mean: I'm sitting in class and the proffesor is talking, etc. A kid walks in an he's just coming in class like any other normal person, but is wearing an outfit that really isn't "normal" i.e. tucked in Star Trek short, holding a brief case with his books, dress pants. Now personally I know there is nothing wrong with that, I don't care what people look like/wear, but I had this strange feeling like I KNEW what everyone was thinking about him (weird, strange, scary, etc.) What is the science behind this? I am NOT implying that I have a sixth sense, I'm sure other people get the same feeling I do. Although when it comes down to quantum science, there are suggestions that show everyone's consciousness is intertwined as one, but that's not what I'm talking about here.

Every spaceship I've seen on Star Trek had missile deflectors and shields, so why didn't Thanos' spaceship in the Avengers' movie?
