Answer #4:

Have you read anything by Edith Nesbit? She wrote in the late Victorian- early Edwardian era, so her work my seem a bit old, but I find it wonderful. I believe authors like Gaiman have used her writings for inspiration many times (Coraline was very reminiscent of Nesbit's style). While her novels were originally intended for younger audiences, they easily appeal to modern readers of all ages.

"Five Children and It" and "The Enchanted Castle" are two of her most famous works, and can both be found, I'm sure, at any large bookseller.

I can assure you that, despite the somewhat simple titles, these books are quite sophisticated. each one is (if I recall) at least 200 pages, and full of mature subject matter. In fact, when I first read them I found it hard to believe that they were ever even considered "children's literature." Then again, I've always supposed children back then were much more educated (no television around! lol).

Answer #5:

Try Edith Pattou. She wrote the book East. its sort of a beauty and the beast redone fairy tale, but it is very very good, more fantasy than romance and not girly at all. She also wrote Hero's song, which its been a while, so I don't really remember, but it was good

James Patterson wrote the Maximum ride series, which are also really good, more sci fi than fantasy, but still, really good.

Tamora Pierce books are always good. I especially like her new one, Terrier.

These are all really good, especially if you're looking for a strong female protagonist. Anyways,

Hope I could help
Happy reading :)

Answer #6:

The following authors write simularily in their books. The books all have a sequel to them eccept "The Spirit Bear" and "Last Sam's Cage"; they're just simular:

Cornelia Funke (Inkheart)--Mythology/fantasy
Ellen Hopkins (Impulse)--Troubled teens
L.M. Montgomery (Anne of Green Gables)--NO specific Plot
David Poulsen (Last Sam's Cage)--Runaway teen/Ben Mikaesen (The Spirit Bear)--Teenager getting better

Lemony Snicket (Series of Unfortunate Events)--Unfortunate events

enjoy :)
