Do you need a given name (ie John Doe), or a descriptive name (ie Dead Man Walking)?

I think you should take a real man on death row’s name…. One who was incarcerated unjustly. Maybe one of your students will learn about him with a google search or something.
Mumia Abu Jamal is a very good example.
It will give a creepy air to the story.

What about taking three or four names from existing stories and playing around with the sounds until you come up with something you like? But once you have a name, do an Internet search on it, just to make sure that it doesn’t already belong to someone famous!
Another idea - type “name generator” into your search engine - there are several available on the web. They just throw up random names until you chose one you like. I’ve listed some examples, but I’m sure you can find others.
All the best with your story!

I’d advise you to pick a name that can be shortened ie Edward - Eddie, Richard - Rich, Dick, …this will then enable you to recall memories of his that could be emotional or loving. Maybe his mum, or a best friend calling him. Makes it a little more poigniant, anmakes him come to life a little more.
as for a last name, just make sure it sounds good when the prison guard calls him to take him away..something like ” Oi Turner, your times up!” You could always just keep referring to him by his surname mind, that would be quite interesting, and have him only mention his first name right at the beginning and right at the end!
I hope I’ve helped.!! xx Good luck with the writing.
