Writers block and depression?

I hate when I’m depressed because my writing suffers from it. I get horrible writers block. And sometimes I can’t tell I’m depressed until it randomly hits me, but it’s weird don’t people usually write the best when they are in a bad mood? I also lack self confidence in my writing, no matter what I do or what people say I think it sucks. And I’ve been told I’m an awesome writer, and that even the best writers lack self confidence.

I just wish I could fix this, nothing I do helps. And I think way to much which doesn’t help. I suppose I should let it go and just try to write what I can get out.

Even if I have to do it one sentence at a time.

This sucks so bad, I just want to be confident in what I do. And some inspiration would be good. Inspiration I can actually put into words.

I seriously hate this, it hurts big time when I can’t write.
This isn’t a question really, more like I’m looking for opinions or whatever comment you feel like making.

Sorry that its not a question.

The online course “The Artist Way” was a good one for me. It emphasized just writing anything as long as you keep pushing the pen. At first it was weird, but after a while ideas start to flow.

You wouldn’t believe it, but I am in just the same situation as you… Got no inspiration/interest to write and just browsed around researching writer’s block and trying to remedy it……when I found your question…..

Here is what will surely work for you. Take a paper, or open a notepad and type out your wish list…Make a list of things you want, things you need to be done…Find out what you want most and do it, according to priority. Don’t think of writing at all, until you exhaust the list…

Once this is done, you would be a different person. Your depression would vanish and you would be raring to pick up your pen to write again.

Try to write something that interests you, not out of compulsion. Start with a subject close to your heart. There was a day when I realized it had been a year since I wrote any poems and wanted so much to write again, just to remove my anxiety. I sat down and wrote 4 stanzas of how it’s been a long time since I wrote and I do not know what to write, for lack of inspiration and ended up having a short poem that not only flowed from the heart and made sense, but actually rhymed! Needless to tell how elated I felt! And I was supposed to have been in very low spirits…

Creativity does get affected when your spirits are low and when you feel depressed. So, first thing to do when you have a writer’s block is to tackle your depression. Go and enjoy life…forget work and writing…until you are better again! It has worked for me, and hope it does for you!
