When I get writers block, I put down my pen, and walk away. I know that something will pop into my head eventually. Sometimes I'll listen to music, sometimes I'll watch TV. I write outside so when I get writers block, I'll having something outside to inspire me.

Just hang in there, and don't give up!

Hi Pamela, I'm a writer and I get writer's block, too.

Here is what works for me:

1. Sometimes just taking a break and having a bike ride or a run will change my neurochemicals enough to start the creative process again. I've had that happen ten miles away from home on my bike, so now I carry a little hand-held tape recorder just so I don't lose ideas.

2. I switch over to email and stat writing to friends. That's sort of like a brain massage or brain jacuzzi for me, just sort of loosens up all the thought tension and then I can go back to whatever I was working on.

3. Try expressing the idea out loud. Like you're trying to explain it to a friend. That uses a different part of your brain, sort of like a back door to that idea room.

4. Even with block, I (and you!) have to write EVERY DAY. If you don't have a project that you're working on, then write long emails to friends or keep a journal or something, but EVERY SINGLE DAY, got that?

Good luck with your writing!

Some ingest chemical stimulants, hoping for that artificial inspiration; others pray i.e. "Oh god why can't I write even one damn thing today." Others read articles, books, magazines, while mining for ideas that interest. Prolific writers are always avid readers.

I have writer's block. I just don't have any ideas. I do write a diary though, which I try to write the best I can. It keeps me writing at least.

One famous writer said "writers block is God's way of telling you to stop writing", which was kind of mean. Every writer experiences block at various times in a project, and you just have to push through it.

- Try experimental ideas without judging them, even if it means deleting everything you write.
- Try not to push on the pressure of 'must write xx words'. Focus on quality not quality.
- Try to enjoy writing again and it will come back!
