Who is the biggest influence on your poetry?

Well who do you think has influenced your writings the most?

For me I’d probably say Counting Crows. I have the beat to one of there songs in my head head when I write half of my poetry.

I write for young children, stuff like “I’m a shark and my name is Boothe. I heard somebody got a tooth.” When children like my stuff, they twirl their feet in circles. When they don’t like it, they arch their backs as if they are in agony and slither off the sofa, as though I won’t notice that they are departing while I’m reading to them. I would have to say that the greatest influence on my writing are the slithering-awayers more than the foot-twirlers.

I would say “life” itself is my best influence on my poetry/ and the people I meet. Be open to life and to people around you– Have a open heart–don’t try to hard for the words–but let the words slowly and gently flow within you–let the words–come from your heart and soul–the words do NOT have to rhythm. I wish you good luck–it is easier than you think.

Well, I’m not really a poet, and I haven’t written very much poetry, but I would have to say that my FIRST influence was probably the teacher of my 2nd semester freshman English class in college. He gave me my first real appreciation for poetry. From time to time I still quote from the book we used in that class.

The BIGGEST influence is probably a long-lost friend I refer to as my Water Brother. (You have to read Stranger In A Strange Land by Robert Heinlein to know what that means).

Years ago she became a very close, very special friend just when I most needed one. I dedicated two poems to her but she moved away, so she has never seen them. I’ve always considered them to be my best creative effort, but that’s probably not very realistic. She was the last friend I ever had, but the memory of her is sufficient. She still influences what little writing I do.

The next biggest influence is all of you wonderful people here who write such beautiful poetry. I have been so stirred by it that, as you now know, I actually wrote something recently and posted it here. In fact, just last night I wrote my very first haiku (three of them, even).

    Enough! I am rambling …

Eric Clapton – some how I’ve read him wrote that “if he hadn’t been a guitar player he could have been a killer” so I turn my feelings, anger and emotions into creativity + some author about creativity or being creative.
