Where can I find a creative writing site that has poetry challenges?

For example, it could be like “write a poem about a dead lover, it has to be no more than 100 words” or more intricate than that.

I used to use a great site but the anme changed a bit. It’s something like “kalliope.com”. I’m sure you can find it in a Yahoo search. It has assignments, various forms, and challenges to write poems in this or that style.

It has a very long list of poetry contests. Just one thing– you have to sign up. However, it’s free, so don’t worry about that.

No infallible advice can be given on how to write a poem. Poets develop their own approaches in time. Nonetheless, here are a few exercises to generate the raw copy.

NOTE : Though this article contains some advice on how to write poems ,it is by no means intended to show “how to become a poet”, even less “how to become a GOOD poet”. .Neither does it cover EVERY aspect of writing poetry. It is intended to help people who HAVE to write poetry – for class or to impress someone maybe.

The results will probably not be “great art”, but o.k. for people who otherwise would have been completely lost.
