What is a creative writing course about?

I saw an advertisement for a local creative writing course, and am interested in doing this as a hobby or just something to try to see how it goes. The thing is, although I get the basic idea of what the course is about, i would like to know some more information about what i’d do on this course.
It’s just an afternoon, once a week thing and i just want to know what kind of things we’d be doing at this course.
helpful answers only thanks!!!
I will ask at the centre soon, but i can’t get there right now so i’m asking you!!!
Thanks!!

    Creative just means fiction.

I have been on a creative writing course and the sort of things we did was to talk about where you could get ideas for stories from - two good ideas are from snatches of overheard conversations and from dreams.

We had to try writing the same story from different points of view and read examples of published writing.

We also did an exercise in identifying the main plot points in fims etc.

There’s a lot of interaction and you might be asked to read out what you have written.

I enjoyed the course a lot.

I’m sure all courses are different, but I hope this gives you some idea

EDIT It wasn’t all about fiction, BTW, we also talked about biography and travel writing

I’m sure all creative writing classes are different but I took that class in high school and it was by far my favorite class. At the beginning of each class we had to write in our journals for 10 minutes (about anything). We did different creative thinking exercises each day such as: writing and illustrating our own children’s book; writing our own ‘i got the blues’ song; creating a new song made up of lyrics from already well known songs; etc. Our teacher would also have us put our heads on our desks and close our eyes while she played a cd filled with various sounds and then after a while we had 5 minutes to write a short story about what we heard. Every 9 weeks we would also have to turn in 5-6 poems that would have to be critiqued by other students.

I guess I rambled on a lot! Anyways, I would recommend taking the class… I never knew one person who didn’t enjoy it!
