It’s in the crime genre, but more specifically the hitman or assassin sub-genre. The narrative structure is Japanese, (Roshomon).
The assassin is functioning in 21st c. literature and film much like the detective did in the 20th c. He/she is now the go-to anti-hero. I know Pulp Fiction was made in 1994. The point is that it’s an end-of-the-century, genre defining movie.
