What do you prefer song lyrics or written poetry?
Has poetry now become outdated by the music of modern bands, artists preferring to write lyrics for albums, rather than for literary collections?

I don’t think poetry has become outdated, it just has in a way evolved with the times and become the way to write lyrics for many songs.
Most songs begin as poems as first.
