My wife has an English Literature degree and has had some of the same problems. She was excellent with customer service working retail as an associate key holder and manager (retail was not very fun for her), she also did “landman” type work for oil/gas companies. Those are the people to go to your house and get you to sell mineral rights/sign leases. She made around $50,000 a year starting off with in New York state, but she was traveling all the time. She now has found her niche being a technical writer. You could also persue a law degree or human resources.
Just my 2 cents.

Working for any newspaper, or magazine. Working as an editor for a book publisher.
An English-major friend of mine ended up working for World Vision in their ad department for a few years.
