What are the differences between a short story and a novel?

Besides the obvious that the short story is shorter. Is there a certain number of pages for it to be a novel? What are some other differences? Thanks, have a great day, and God Bless!

  1. Zau Says:

The short story is meant to be finished in one sitting. Novels are not.

  2. artful Says:

The novel is longer. It would be unusual to call anything longer than fifty pages a short story, and even that is pretty long. A short story usually has fewer characters and focuses on one particular moment. A novel may have many characters and take place over a much longer period of time. However, it is important to realize that there is some overlapping.
