what are limits on high school creative writing?

ok so i am going to have creative writing, and song writing sometime during this school year.

and i am wondering if there were any restrictions on what you can write about.
because i don’t like to write about happy stuff.
so can you write about suicide, or any other depressing stuff?

i know that what i write is decent. (like good)
but will my teacher make me talk to a counselor?
or anything else?
ok
when i write about depressing stuff
it just kinda automaticly happens.
like i have to put no thought into it.

I’ve written something like that and I wasn’t questioned or sent to a counselor. Though my teacher gave me a disturbed look. Haha.

I wrote a story about suicide in creative writing and was not sent to the counselor. However, it was not about me, if you write about wanting to kill yourself, or about killing other people, or if your teacher is sensitive to depressing subjects, you could be referred to the counselor. If that does happen, explain that it was just a story, it should be fine though.

Unfortunately, schools are keeping a strict eye on this sort of thing. You may want to save some of the more raw writing for higher education. Try to push the limits in other ways. Be careful though because most high schools will not hesitate to throw you into the hell that is counseling. That is, of course, assuming that you don’t actually need the help…

How is anyone able to answer without the details of your school?
Ask your teacher. It’s a creative course so they should let you exp-ress yourself . If they don’t then you will (maybe) learn something new.

I am a writing teacher, and I personally don’t like reading “downer” writing. A lot of kids like to write about off stuff because they think it’s cool or makes them stand out as unique. School appropriate writing has more to do with the attitude, voice and context than with subject matter.

You would be wise to select subjects that do not alarm in this day and age.

    hey its me again =)
who cares what you write about man let your heart guide you in writing thats what i do and it works a afterwards you will have a master piece.
    =) good Luck!!

unfortunatly that will most likely happen. but w/e, just stick up for what your writing is. i really dont see anything wrong with writing about things like that either, as long as there really isnt anything wrong with that person. plus it makes for a better story XD

at least you dont have my creative writing teacher. whenever we have a new assignment he pretty much pulls anything out of his @ss. last week he’s like “ok… pretend you’re an indian. now pretend your an alcoholic. papers due @ the end of class”

    so wonderful.
