I love writing short stories. But, the majority of my stories are about hospitals or people getting injured. Can anyone give me any ideas as to how to write something different?

I am not talking about a book that is going to be published by some major company. I am talking writing short stories for a hobby. I feel like I have an abundance of ideas that are just going to waste that could make great stories. What are some of the best things to do before actually writing? I know I want to make sure my characters develop and that my story is consistent and coherent. What should I do? Thanks.

I am intersting in writing short stories, stories and other articles. But now I am facing a problem, that is I have many story ideas in my mind! But I can not convert it in to a realistic manner. I can not write the situations and events effectively. So I need advice and help from experienced.

I am writing a short scifi story. I have decided to make it take place over a considerable time span by jumping from one time period to another.
I invented my own time system…..should I provide a key at some point in the story to explain it or just allow them to get a feel but never completely understand what it is?

I have no idea where to start. I have started writing some short stories of a general nature in the hope that I am inspired to write more. I want to know a successful way of getting these published without it costing me money at the moment. I know some magazines used to publish short stories but this seems to be an “80’s” kind of thing to do… Help!

If you enjoy writing, which one do you enjoy writing more? I enjoy writing short stories. Writing a 300 or 400+ page book I don’t think I can do. Most of my short’s are about 20-40 pages long. I find writing that is more fun.

But it seems like short stories don’t get any respect. Is that true?

I have no ability whatsoever of writing short stories that arent morbid. I don’t write stories anyways. I prefer songs and poetry. I can’t think of anything. Help?

I have tried before… but the stories end up being like 30+ pages instead of 2 or 5 pages. I just seem to go into too much detail. And it kills me not to go in deep. So what do I do?

Are there any tips to help with this? writing exercises maybe?

btw, i know i should have posted this in the books and authors section, but some of the ppl in there… are just straight out d*cks. Sorry, but they are. Ppl in here seem to be of more help.
