I’m writing about a boy who finds out he’s a wizard .I’m working out the kinks,but how do I incorporate firearms REALISTICLLY in a fantasy culture where swords were originally going to be the weapon of choice?

I only know that the character,Sparrowhawk, is a wizard.
Also the villain in the story is a wizard.He lives in a castle.

There is another character in the movie whose real name is Lebanon, I forgot the name by which he is called.He is a teenage boy.
