Fiction about Medieval/Renaissance Mysteries/Occult? Suggestions?

Hi everybody.

I’m trying to shop for a co-worker whose really into historical/mystery/occult fiction. Things that he’s enjoyed in the past are:

Umberto Eco’s The Name of the Rose and Foucault’s Pendalum

Arturo Perez-Riverte’s The Club Dumas

Things he did not enjoy: Dan Brown.

He also likes historical “in-period” fiction, so i’ve been looking around for fictional works that deal directly with the Renaissance and weird/mysterious matters.

Suggestions are always welcome, if you’ve got an idea i’m all ears.

How dangerous would a fire brething fish be, (in fantasy fiction)?

….a bit weird, but give me your thoughts, can a fire breathing fish harm you in anyway, how would you feel if you were in a fantasy setting and your friend gets to ride a dragon and you get a…um…fire breathing fish

What is the weirdest/dumbest/longest word you know?

Well, I’m using random words to sport for my ideas in some fiction I write and I need inspriation. For example, the word flabbergasted is weird to me because I always used to think it was not a “real” word, so I would like to know what words you think is weird…X3!
Please include definition!

I’m looking for character name suggestions for a brunette female also what eye color?

I’d like an uncommon name, but nothing too weird
I’d also love you for giving me first, middle, and last names, too. No pressure, though.

What would be a sexy and fun female character name?

My online account name is Kristin, or some of my friends call me Kris for short. My character will be, sort of weird and freaky, like the hyper and sexy one in her clique of friends. She’s got her own thing going on. She’s supportive of her friends and she’s very out-going. She’ll also be looked up do to her high status in the game.

Other character names I have are:

Krist-L-light
BreathlessInBC
Babii-Girl
Too-HotforU

The name I’m looking for now will be my strongest character for this season, so I want the name to really stand out!
Also, just to give a bit more info about my character – she very quickly swings a lot of hammers to kill monsters for her team.

Does writing poetry cause peer pressure to the point you feel weird?

I read an ‘about me’ and the person mentioned being crazy, weird, a nobody, and an outcast. These are my comments:

Sometimes I think you may be weird,
Or crazy just a bit.
But let somebody badmouth you,
And watch me have a fit.

If someone say you’re nobody,
They’re sure to feel my wrath.
I’ll hold them down and give their mouth,
A very soapy bath.

And nah, I say to any one,
Who thinks you are outcast.
I’ll let them have some of my mind,
And do it very fast.

You are yourself and none can change,
The things you think and do.
That’s my advice to one and all,
Endeavor to be you.
Yeah Twilight, I missed a little on that one. Once again I was thinking several lines ahead of my typing. A little tuck or two should fix it nicely. Thanks. If not for careful attention by you, I might have missed it totally.

Am I weird for not writing poetry that is about myself?

I see a lot of poems which address the writer’s emotions. I don’t think I have ever written anything like that though . I prefer to write as a character I made up as a part of the story or as an observer . If i wrote something like this , I would not want to share it because they would be my private thoughts. Is there anyone else who feels like this ?
