BEGINNERS AND CREATIVE WRITING
Creative writing is all about playing with words when expressing your thoughts on a subject matter of your choice. You need to bear in mind certain points when adopting that pattern.
1) Creative writing allows you to use your imagination , rather than stick to the ordinary accepted style of writing. It involves the use of grammatical gymnastics with an injection of regular doses of literary principles in to the subject matter
2) You must have an active imaginative bank where you can carry out your creative transactions. Some people are not just creative because they simply refuse to allow their imagination to run wild
3) You need to develop the habit of reading books (literary – fiction). Fiction itself means something that isn’t real, so authors are able to create something out of nothing through the power of imagination
4) Crime, romance, mystery, horror, thriller novels are good examples where you can see first hand how the authors play with words. Poetry is also a good source as well
5) Put your imagination to the test by writing on a topic you find interesting, it could be as simple as ‘a day at the beach’
6) Creative writing entails the use of descriptive words aided by rich literary techniques. For eg rather than write “ the sun began to set” be more imaginative. You could say :
“The sun standing upon the centre stage of life slowly takes an exit bow in an elegant manner, retracting its visually blinding rays with grandeur. The chord of envy strikes within the heart of the darkness as it begins to slowly unwrap its body across the sky in an uncoordinated manner void of perfection”
7) Remember it’s one step at a time, get to know the ABC’s of creative writing, but personal development will take you very far
Creative writing can be intellectually tasking, but fun to write. You’ll be amazed at the great response that would follow your write ups.
