Writers block, or too much of a perfectionist?

So,I’m writing a novel, not much of one and it’s only for my own personal amusement really. As you may know, every writer has their own way of doing things, some people like MS word, some like a typewriter, others like doing it by by hand on the back of napkins; personally I prefer TextEdit on Mac OSX, because it allows me to use HTML coding, which makes my process a lot smoother. Now I’m part of the introductions here’s my problem: I’ve got good ol’ writers block. Now, as I said every writer has their own process and mine is as unique to me as yours probably is to you. See, my personal definition of writers block is when my train of thought stops (or sometimes gets completely derailed). Even if it’s only for three seconds, I still feel that once I’ve lost my “thread” -as I call it- then I’m off of my track and onto another (liking these train metaphors? I’m not, so I’ll stop now). So here’s where the carriage meets the caboose (okay, that’s the last one): I need to know how to keep myself focused; I write in a pretty tidy home office and, even though I have dyslexia I’m in control of it enough to pretty much be used to how my own brain works by now. Am I being too much of a perfectionist? Many of my writer friends have told me that it’s a good thing to be on a new “thread” because it keeps my stories “fresh” (whatever that means, it’s not like I’m making a sandwich is it?). So, should I just chill and take their advice? Or do you think that sticking to my guns is the best way? Personally I think change is good, but I’m worried that if I change one thing I’ll lose everything I’ve been building up over the years. What do you think?

Poem Question: Is there any significance to a train having its headlight on during the day?

I have to write a “reaction paragraph” to the poem “Oh, Oh” by William Hathaway. Is there any significance to the fact that the train’s headlight is on in the middle of a bright summer’s day?

Also:
What types of imagery are there? I never really understood how to figure that out in poems.

What is the theme?

Effect? I don’t know exactly what my teacher means by that.

How do I become a creative writing tutor ?

Im based in London have worked as a secretary for more than 10 years and have an HND in Business Studies but am tired of admin work and office politics and would like to do something more creative- change careers.

I write in my spare time and have attended an advanced writing course for the past 3 years and am writing a novel. I would like to see if I could train to teach creative writing in further education colleges etc or and English /English literature. I would also be grateful if I could get any info on what qualifications you need to be able to teach English as a first language and Basic literacy skills and ESOL.
