Has poetry now become outdated by the music of modern bands, artists preferring to write lyrics for albums, rather than for literary collections?

Im trying to get into singing like im already in acting but i want to be a singer too. i have parts of my lyrics in my head but the all work in completely difernt songs. somebody please help me figure out how to get off of writers block?
