It had these two kids in the future finding a book and not knowing what it is because books become obsolete
Even more confusing it was in a book “50 Short Science Fiction Tales by a variety of authors. In fact, it was the first story in the book.

I do have the book somewhere, but it might be in my old room at my parents’ house
It wasn’t Henry Kuttner. It would be a name anyone would recognize like Isaac Asimov or H.G. Wells. In fact, it might even be one of them but Wikipedia was no help

It’s written from the perspective of an off-world being. Does it give you a visual image? Do you want to see more of it, or should I stop wasting your time?

In the Northern Hemisphere of the third planet from a small primary, there is a long and narrow island. A female biped, species Homo Sapiens, is walking across the sand toward the ocean. She is a maker of stories, some real and others fiction based on reality.

Story-making is ofen a solitary profession and she is feeling the need for companionship. Although she is intrigued with mystery, when she is not making stories, she believe in being straightforward. This is why she looks neither to the right nor to the left, but keeps her eyes focused on the incoming tide.
Okay, Ariana, but I have to wait to see if anyone else agrees w/you.

I’m trying to write a science fiction story that uses military ranks other than the typical ones used in modern day war, like General, Colonel, Captain, etc. To that end, I was wondering if anyone knew of somewhere where I could lookup military ranks as named by other cultures (Japanese, Chinese, etc.) or possibly onces used in fiction or popular mythos, just to give me an idea. If you had to write a science fiction story, what would you write about? (this includes apocalyptic scenarios too, not just stories about interstellar travel, although if this is what you would write about that’s cool too!). Just wondering what people would write about, I always think I would write a post-apocalyptic story after a meteor has hit the Earth or something.
