For my next book report I have to read a short story. Im into Action and Science Fiction. What is a good short story in this category. And nothing too old.
my teacher changed the assignment to read 20 short stories with different authors. Does anyone know 20 different short stories?

I am trying to find a science fiction short story that was about a scientist who created some small, very simple, fast living creatures. He then put them into a closed environment and made various changes to this environment–which caused them to evolve. He did this over a period of time, and his creatures became more and more complex and intelligent.
I would sure appreciate knowing the name of this story, and its author.

My question is doing SOOOOOO well in Book & Authors, I decided to give people here a try. It appeared in a collection of science fiction short stories. I read it in about 1969. Briefly, the idea was that electricity started “talking” to humans through their electrical devices, making them migrate to high power substations and throw themselves onto the wires. I can’t remember the author or what the name of the collection was (possibly one of those “best of 1968″-type things). Does anyone remember this?

Well, not a science fiction short story… instead, it demonstrates how authors describe things too much in SF.
It’s about 2 people, who are traveling from one place to another using the air service and describe it all in painstaking detail.
Someone wrote it to show how conversations in SF would look like if held by normal people.

I remember reading it a looong while ago but can’t find it anywhere. If you have a link to it, that would be awesome. Thanks.

It’s my first story. Is there any point submitting to print magazines or should I just try to get it published in an online magazine right away? How much can I expect to be paid for a 5000 word short story?
