I’ve been looking in the Writer’s Digest 2007 book for reputable (not hucksters or fly by night) publishers, but most of them either discourage sending in poetry submissions or have these dumb contests. Most agents don’t seem to be thrilled with representing poets as well…What do I do?

I can only write poetry about my experiences because I am a very analytical and logical person, when i go into whimsical i just spite my creations. Apparently there is a mindset in which subconscious creative thoughts are brought to the fore. As an assignment I have to write a piece of poetry today and it is to be inspired by the romantic poetry movement. If any poets out there could give me any little tips about putting yourself in ‘poetry mode’ or any tips about writing poetry in general, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, everyone

I’m a high school student who loves literature and poetry, but I’m disappointed with how little poetry we read in school. Do you know of any good poetry books which have a variety of classical and famous poetry also with some background information about the poets, time period, etc. Not something too expensive, and not a textbook, but something for reading on my own time.

A lot of times poets set up fake sites that say you’re entering a poetry contest when It’s really just a trick to get more ideas for their poems, or better yet, steal your poem completely. Does anyone know of any sites that you can enter your poetry in for contests that are actually real?

I’ve just started work on a book of poetry and am looking for good quality Indian poems by other new writers like myself. Also any help on finding publishers would be great!

I really really love poetry, and I also love writing. The problem is that I find poetry difficult to write. Some people are so good at it, its amazing. I know that poetry is one of those things that comes from within you, and that its hard to tell someone “how” to do it, but I was hoping that some people here could give me some tips on how to get started writing for fun. I never know what to write about. But my biggest problem is that I don’t understand how poets use literary devices so well, its amazing! Any tips would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks so much!
