Is anyone here who writes fan fiction embarrassed about it? Why?

I love writing fan fiction. It has been one of my obsessions for about 3 months now, but i realised the other day that i would just about die of shame if any of my friends or family found out that i read/write it. Does anyone else feel like this? Or am i just being oversensitive about what other people would think?
(I dont mean if they read what i wrote, just the fact that they would know i wrote it would be humiliating.)

I used to belong to a site that was Buffy/Angel related where people joined up, chose a character to play and they wrote fan fiction, adding on to the story and were voted off week by week and the owner wrote the death of the character. i would LOOOVE to play that game or another like it again but can’t find it. Does anyone know where I can find that or something like it???

How come some people can write poetry and fiction, while others can’t? Is Creative Writing a talent?

…Like acting, singing, dancing or painting?
It has to be. Most of the writings I read here or on websites like FanFiction.net, FictionPress.com, etc. are AWFUL.

But my favourite books are amazingly written — they bring you to another world, make you cry or laugh… I think it’s admirable to have that gift, and I doubt it’s only practice or will. Talent must be inborn.

I just rounded up the bravery to post a fan fiction that I just wrote, and I want people to read it. I just don’t know how to get people to pay attention to it.

Creative writing: How can I practice the technique of defamiliarization?

I really admire people who use the technique of defamiliarization well. I find it really funny.

For example, I once called my friend who lives 600 miles away, and he said that he was busy at the moment, but that he’d call me back in an hour so we could ‘go for coffee.’ (Meaning, talk on the phone, lol.)

Are there some exercises I can do to use this technique more creatively?

Thanks.
