Looking for Good Mystery Novels?

Alright, so I’ve never really been an avid fan of the mystery genre. I have only ever read two mysteries: And Then There Were None and Death Comes as the End, both by Agatha Christie.

Suddenly, however, I feel compelled to read some sort of mystery fiction sometime soon.

SEX IS OKAY.

VIOLENCE AND GORY DESCRIPTIONS ARE OKAY (both when explaining the murder and examining the body)!

BOOKS THAT BASICALLY CENTER ENTIRELY AROUND BOTH THESE THINGS ARE NOT OKAY. I am looking for something in the mystery genre, because I am interested in reading a mystery. I don’t want to pick something up that is basically about the sex life of a detective who happens to be solving a crime during the time of the plot.

I would especially like books that allow you to guess what happened before the end of the story, but this is not a requirement. Consider this while suggesting novels or authors, but don’t let it be your only concern. I’d like some variety, anyway.

Other than that, anything goes, really. :] Like I said, though, variety is good, so try not to recommend a bunch of the same thing.
A side note: Technical, legal stuff is okay up to a certain point. I don’t mind having to look a definition up now and then. However, I also do not wish to be forced to have entire pages translated online, if you understand what I’m saying.

Know Any Good Fiction Books To Read?

I am 24 and I enjoy reading fiction - mostly romance or some mysteries. I like reading books where I find out unexpected things or where the characters do things that they maybe should not (such as having affairs). Any ideas? Thanks!

Do you enjoy reading science fiction?

If not, what genre do you enjoy? I personally love to read science fiction and fantasy, especially “Doctor Who” and “Harry Potter” books. I also enjoy reading Westerns, Mysteries, and even a little History once in awhile.

Any good Non-Fiction suggestions?

I have been an avid novel reader and have mainly read thriller, mysteries, etc. I have enjoyed medical thrillers immensely although I have read some law and techno thrillers. All of the stuff without any real merit lol However, I want to broaden my horizon and begin to read about real life events, topics, people, etc. I need to start with some non-fiction books that are exciting enough to hold my interest, and then I will sort of “wean” myself from this need for excitement.

Does anyone have non-fiction titles to start with? It doesn’t matter the topic, just needs to be interesting and reasonably exciting.

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Historical Fiction Set in Ancient Rome - Any Recommendations?

I’ve already read Steven Saylor’s entire series so far of Gordianus the Finder, and Lindsey Davis’ entire Marcus Didius Falco mysteries; I loved both these series. I’m looking for another series along these lines.

They don’t have to be mysteries, but I’m not interested in anything that’s heavily battle or military-oriented. I’m more interested in great characters and storylines in the setting of ancient Rome (Pagan eras only please).

Fantasy? Sci-Fi? Mystery? Spies? Classics? Recent Teen Fiction?

I have a website and I need some help please. I need some people to check my various lists and answer the questions below. If you go to the site
http://booksandmore4kids.googlepages.com and then click on Suggested Readings for…

1. Are there any titles under Mysteries that should be on the list of Spy Novels and vice versa? Am I missing anything important on either list?

2. Are there any titles under Fantasy that should be on Sci-Fi and vice versa? Am I missing anything important on either list?

3. Recent Teen Fiction - anything missing?

4. Classics - anything missing?

Thank you so very much for your input. I created this site because I buy so many books for nieces and nephews and the people at Barnes and Noble kept asking where I got the titles for all the books I order.
