How can I help my 9-year-old be more interesting to his peers?

My son needs help socially. What are boys that age into, besides sports? My son likes fantasy/ science fiction. If I were to give him some pointers on conversation starters, what should I tell him? Are there any games, activities that he could promote on the playground to help him make friends?

What is a good fantasy/science fiction/alternate history book to read?

I’m looking for a good book to read. I like fantasy, science fiction and alternate history. I’ve read most of the more common and popular books in these genres and am looking for something new. I’ve read The Wheel of Time series, Malazan Book of the Fallen, The Dresden Files, all of Simon .R Greens books, a song of ice and fire, all of Harry Turtledoves books, and the series 1632.

Young Adult fantasy/science fiction publishers that don’t require an agent to get published?

I’m in search of a publisher–mostly fantasy, but science fiction might help–and even with Writer’s Market, I’m having trouble finding a good one that accepts novels over 120,000 words long and don’t need agents. Please help me!

I can’t remember the title of this book. Can you?

It’s a juvenile fantasy/science fiction novel about two to four kids who live in a weird random house or mansion. There is a moat with alligators? around their house.

They have had many different nannies who typically run away after a short period of time. One nanny may have been eaten by the alligators.

One of the children has a pet rat? who had babies. Somehow they (the rat’s babies) got trapped in the computer or on the internet (zapped into cyberspace or something like that).

I began reading this book but got busy and never finished. Doesn’t anyone have any clue what book it was?

Thanks!
I believe the parents are missing (or the dad is, I don’t recall the mom)…
Z ~ Yes, that’s it!!! Thank you!
