How can I make my lyrics more poetry oriented?

So yes I rap but not about any of that stupid drugs, money, crap rap.I’m out of school right now and I like to write I know certain forms of rap are considered poetry.I was wondering how could I make my rhymes more poetic I’m more interested in making something along the lines that originates from poetry and turning it into rap.I often rap about my thoughts or how I am feeling. My mother did poetry for a while before I was born was in a couple poetry books a few awards,But I don’t think her type of poetry is my style even though I can still learn a few things from her. What style of poetry is most like rap I wan’t a type of poetry that rhymes because I know some poetry doesn’t rhyme much. And what are some methods I can use when writing to seperate my rap from all the gangbangers, drug dealers, and have a more poetic outlook on my rhymes,I’ve seen rappers like this and I think their style is very cool see I like poetry because I like to tell real life stories not lies or talking about ounces.
Also are there any poetry classes that beginers can take? not college classes but poetry?.and how should my outlook be when writing If I wan’t to write something that rhymes across the lines of rap but a poetry edge.
thanks

When writing a short story, how can I pull off putting in a theme without sounding corny?

No matter what I do, it seems like I’m taking up a “Hey kids, don’t do drugs and be yourself! Or else this will happen!” sort of voice…I’m not trying to write a fable or a fairy tale here, but I don’t want to write some random meaningless crap.
I don’t mean to say that not doing drugs was actually my theme…I’m just saying, when I put in a theme, I have the same corny, babying voice as the people who tell kids not to do drugs.
