How to Keep Your Creative Juices Flowing

Creative ideas come easy for extremely talented people but even the most creative person has those episodes of creative drought. That’s the period equivalent to a writer’s block where no matter how much one tries hard, really really hard to concentrate and put himself in a creative mood, no idea comes out!  If you are one of those people who are in the industry which requires them to come up with great ideas, here are some tips to keep your creative juices flowing:

1.)    Rest your mind once in a while. If you have been thinking all day long for a bright concept yet your creative light bulb is still off, don’t force it! Forget about the concept or the deadline for a while. Take a quick nap, read a book you like, go out for a walk, take a long bath, whatever works for you. Do not even think of work while you are doing this because that would defeat the purpose. I know this may be difficult if the deadline is very near but doing this is never a wasted time. Being in the creative platform for too long can drain your senses. Putting the idea on the back burner can stimulate the creative subconscious.

2.)    Be observant and feel the world around you. Do not limit on the visuals. Observe everything around you using all your senses. Notice the colors of nature, the patterns that you see around you, the sound of your neighborhood, and the feel of your walls. These activities help fuel your creativity. It is like creating a blue print and storing them in your creative bank. It is no wonder that the most creative people are the most observant and sensual as well.

3.)    Carry a pen and paper wherever you go. You can also use a palm pilot, organizer, or even your cellular phone-anything that you can easily write your thoughts on. Many bright ideas come to us anytime during the day. Sometimes when these bright ideas visit us, we tend to mark it on our heads but most of the time, they are forgotten.  Next time, when an idea visits you, write them down before they get lost in your head.

4.)    Read, read, read. And I do not just mean the “creative” books. Read all kinds of books and paper you get your hands on. Read the daily paper, read a new novel, read blogs, read the text on the can of soda you are holding, most importantly read the kind of books you don’t like reading. Each has something to offer to your imagination and the way you view things. The books which aren’t your interest could open you up to different kinds of worlds and ideas.

5.)    Enroll in classes that could help develop creativity. May it be painting, creative writing, theater, or any art course. Not only will this enhance your creative thinking skills, it could also serve as a good outlet for your talents. I guess the point is to learn and experience something new each day in order for you not to be stuck. This is very necessary for one to be creative.

Practicality Of Creative Writing With Passion

Writing throughout history has transformed itself to either an immortalization of one’s thoughts or a lucrative business. The first is the essence and the other one is the consequence.

With respect to the art of writing itself, it must always be treated with reverence. Not that too many great people have dedicated themselves towards glorifying the art or that it has become a means by which we have learned history and man’s life but because it is in itself, a vital part of our existence.

Creative writing must come from the heart. It can be learned. It can be copied from what has already been written by other authors, only adding some innovative details. It can be new. Whatever you choose, so long as you write from your heart and from the deepest of your thoughts, you are sure to crop out creative ideas.

There is literally hundreds of ways by which you can manipulate your creativity towards writing. But whatever you do, never loose sight of your aim. That is, to write as your heart dictates.

We can never give justice to writing if we treat it as a job or we if we see it from a business-mind’s perspective alone. It must be dealt with passionately. Without passion, one will never be good enough for writing.

Writers write because they have no other choice.

There seems to be a tiny voice (which somehow overpowers the owner of this voice) that urges someone to write. This never stops in telling you to put your ideas, sentiments, emotions, notions, name it, into paper that you can go back into.

This voice will let you explore the significance of writing to your being. This tiny voice will let you realize that writing has no boundaries. It is the guiding voice that would show you your own path, a road that was set apart for you even before time begun.

The strange thing though is that this inner writer never stops in urging you, not even if you have already forgotten listening to him. But you see, it is inevitable for an inborn writer to turn away from his gifts. The voice may be silent for sometime and it has justifications for doing so.

It may be that for a couple of times, you have failed to listen to it or worse, you deliberately turned away from it. But it is its nature to come back to its ever-persisting voice to encourage you to write as it would say.

Creative writing is not only an art, it is a devotion, a passion, an instinct. You may learn technical techniques on how to hone your talent but you see, at the end of the day, you may not need as much technical training as you would have first thought. In fact, you are built in ways that are ideal for your becoming a writer.

A philosopher once told us of the beasts that thrive within us. Now, know and really take into consideration that there lives a genius within you, you just have to tune into him. And once you do, you will learn that this genius is the only thing that could help you towards turning yourself into a creative writer.

Creative writing can be channeled out to profit. But that is not the real essence of writing. If you write, just write from your heart and never mind the pockets. Because after all, business will find its ways to follow those who write their hearts well.

What would be some creative writing ideas for a journal?

I have considered writing a journal for quite some time now, however, I suppose you could say I’ve lacked motivation. After my 4 years of marine corps. service is over I’d like to be confident in my writing skills and go to college. I’m not the best writer so what I’d like to do is start a system or pattern or something where everyday It’s not just me writing random thoughts….. or is that ok? Maybe answering questions in an essay format or something would improve my skills. Please post any or all ideas.
