Questions

I am wanting to start writing, but want to start off slow. Is it good to start off writing a short story, or am I just being lazy. should I just jump into an attempt at a novel? Please help, I have great Ideas, and people tell me I’m a great story teller, but I want to take it to another level. I just don’t know much about the ‘next level’.

another question….how does the attempt to be a creative writer of literary genres, fiction, nonfiction, drama, poetry make us better creative and critical readers of those literary genres?

I’ve have this really good imagination of story and fantasy like situations that I’d like to make a book of. But the problem is, I’ve never been a good story writier or teller, plus I usually lack the motivation and attention sapn to properly write even a page of my storrie everytime i attempt to write them.

What could I do or use to remedy this?

I’m trying this thing called NaNoWriMo [National Novel Writing Month] where you attempt to write 50,000 words in THIRTY DAYS. It started today at midnight–my only problem: I DON’T HAVE A PLOT. Anyone out there have ideas?

I am going to attempt to write my first novel (historical fiction). Are there any really, really good books to help out with this besides the one by Strunk and White?

I have a pretty good idea of what the novel should be like, storywise and all, but should I do the historical research first (not really a problem because I have a bachelor’s degree in history) or do the outline first? How long does it take to work on an outline for a novel?
