I don’t write for a day or so. I give my brain a rest and that works since it’s a chance for me to focus on other things. Then inspiration follows at times. I may be listening to a song and BOOM! I’m writing something.
When I say that I have an idea, I don’t sit down and say, “I want to write a song about love.” Well, love is a VERY broad topic. I have to break it down to something specific about love (ie. a failed relationship). Now I’m getting somewhere in writing a song. Also, I can’t “want” to write a song, it’s just has to happen.
The reason you can’t get down your ideas is maybe because they’re too broad and you don’t know what to write about because of that. It’s awesome that you have inspiration though, that’s a good thing!
Good luck. Have fun. Don’t get frustrated and give your brain a rest once in a while.

I’ve been writing song lyrics 1990 non stop..i even wrote some poetry too on too…so when I used to had a real bad case of Writers Block….I’d put down the the pen for at least a week and go do some bikeriding or some drumming to get mind of it for a while. I had to literally take a vacation from writing….then come back to the pen and paper and try it again. It worked for me…you and try it and see what happens. Hope this helps and good luck
