Historical difference is usually anything that revolves around an actual historical event (ie: Vietnam, WWI-II, Civil War, etc.). Realistic fiction is just the story of someone who didn't exist in history, but isn't a fantasy story (ie: anything by Sarah Dessen. GREAT books, by the way). Realistic fiction can be during a historic event, but isn't centered around it. Like, it could be a book about a girl surviving HS, but it takes place during WWII. That'd be Realistic Fiction. Historical would be something like Summer of my German Soldier or Slaughter House 5.

Historical fiction IS realistic fiction. Non-realistic fiction would be fantasy, i.e. Harry Potter.
