Multi-platform novel writing freeware?

I’m currently on the hunt for novel-writing freeware, downloadable and accessible to both a PC and Mac OsX platform. I’ve been doing dozens and dozens of Google searches and haven’t been able to successfully find something that is either free and/or supported by both platforms. Any help or link to a download is appreciated!

**Please, do not just post a response suggesting a Google search. As previously stated, I’ve already been doing that and have gotten nowhere. Only serious responses, please.

The only software I use to write is Word. I have written 5 novels, ghostwritten 6 books for a major sports personality, edited many books and am currently ghostwriting memoirs for two different people. Never needed anything but Word. It does everything you need it to so you can properly format a manuscript. I am on Mac. Pax-C

I have been looking at software for writers and found that even the stuff that costs a lot doesn’t look very helpful.
I doubt that you will find anything of value for free, especially since you have the extra requirement of being cross-platform.

There was something I found…I think it was called Wizards for Windows…that adds features to Word for things like formating, but it isn’t free.

I currently use Word and Excel to keep research information organized. I use a good ol’ fashioned pencil and paper to make timelines.

    Good Luck,
    James
