I’ve had writers block for months. Why can’t i find my muse?

I’ve always been a writer, i write all the time, short stories, poems, scripts and plays… you name it. But about 8 or 9 months ago i broke up with my partner of 2 years and since then i just cannot write, nothing comes to me and if it does i lose it quickly. I’m not exactly unhappy, i have a great life with great friends and a new partner… Why can’t i find my muse? (the source of my inspiration)

No one knows exactly why the human mind works the way it does, maybe you are sub-conscientiously unhappy and you dont even know it. First thing to do is discover the true source of your unhappiness.

If possible, keep in touch with your former partner, maybe being around them will keep your inspiration up. That’s all I can think of!! Hope I halped!!!

    Take a walk.

Take the first word that pops into your mind from each site you see on your walk.

Write down at least 3 words when you get home. Create one sentence using the words.

Now, get rid of your block by writing the most scathing critique of the sentence you just wrote. It will release the evil demons and allow your muse to once again sing and there is no hangover.

My thoughts are that you might be thinking too much. When I get “The Block” I like to just go down to the lake with a pad and pen and look around. OR I just walk around the neighborhood, with my tape recorder. Try it, it seems to work for me. Good luck.

Note: Just try to isolate yourself for a little. No TV or music or any of that stuff. Just you and the brain.

Finding inspiration for writing can come from various things, one of the most popular (which I use a lot is music, especially on the go, as it starts you thinking about different scenario’s depending on where you visit etc.) Being an author I know what it’s like when you lose inspiration over a loved one who has let you down, but you have to push the negatives out of your mind, or turn the events into a scene or something which is a starting point for you to develop from.

I hope this helps, but as another tip, try taking an idea for a scene you may have (like a romance scene) and listen to love songs etc. this will definitely inspire you as it does with me, I also do the same with action scenes and such.

Good luck with your writing x

I understand what you’re going through – I’ve been having trouble writing lately as well and I’m not sure why. What I’ve been trying to do is think of things that I don’t normally write about – different themes, topics, character types, etc. Maybe try to change your “routine” of writing (e.g. instead of coming up with a plot first, create a character).
Sometimes doing a free-write can help as well. You say nothing is coming to you, so just write about your frustration or something like that and see where your thoughts lead! Perhaps you’ll find inspiration in whatever words you use to express your thoughts. ^_^

Ah, yes. I’ve been there. My girlfriend doesn’t understand when I call her my muse. Every so often I’ll walk up to her, give her a kiss and say “thank you.” She’ll claim to not have done anything but I know better.

Unfortunately while we weren’t together I found it nearly impossible to create. It’s like there was something missing. One day I woke up and realized that I was causing my own block. I got so used to having her as inspiration that I subconsciously decided there was no possible way I could do it without her. After that it was just a matter of forcing the block out of the way by writing anything and everything that came to mind. Eventually I was able to get back into the swing of things and found inspiration elsewhere.

Obviously we got back together and she’s resumed her role as my own personal muse, but I know I don’t have to rely on her for that any more. I think we’re both better for that.

Basically what I’m saying is do some soul searching and find where your block is coming from then force it out of the way. That will allow a new muse in.

This always happens to me as well! I found my muse from songs and movies though. Writing the way your feeling is great. Use a part of your life, important, as a source of a story/poem whatever and extend on to it.

Take a walk. Keep a little bit of contact with your former partner, clear your head for awhile and focus on something, then something will pop into your head.

I really believe that you must stop looking for it . Surrender to the fact that for some time you were unable to write .All of sudden you will find yourself writing better than before …
Regain your faith in yourself and not in your relations.

Try going to a place that inspires you or is part of a story you’re writing, or reminds you of a scene and see what happens there. Describe everything. Or do something a character would do. Do anything to exercise your writing muscles, describe little things – always carry a note book and pen. When boiling water, for some tea describe the steam or describe the way birds fly when they come visiting your garden. Hope it gets better.
