i'm also a writer with some minor writer's block right now, but here are some ideas for some vampire stories. i'm not sure how you portray your vamps, but here are some pos & neg portrations:

vampress lives in down town nyc, and she feeds on her victims while they lay in slumber. after a rash of killings, a detective (doesn't believe in vamps) lays a trap to catch her, and when he does, she convinces him to let her go (use your imagination) and he does, and she leaves the city to prey on other victims in another town/city.

young boy, only 1/2 vamp so he can go out in sunlight, goes to live with his aunt & uncle in the country after the death of his parents. he, unlike full vamps, can drink a victim's blood without changing/killing them because his mother was a mortal. a guy from his new school befriends him, but this boy's dad is an avid vamp believer, so he natuarally is cautios of the main character. at a show down have the young vamp kill his friend's dad to keep his secret, then have him fly off into the night.

those ideas both leave mystery at the end that leave the reader to wonder if their are vamps, and if the missing vamps are somewhere around him/her.

hope this helps, and feel free to email me if you'd like to help me with my writer's block. hope to hear from you.

1. High stakes
2. Highs and lows of your multi-dimensional character's lives
3. Deep controlling idea -- after I read the final act's last climax I want it to cause me to reflect. The controlling idea should say, "life is like this". It's your interpretation of life.

What helps me is free associated writing.
Just start writing whatever is on your mind. Keep writing and try not to stop your pen. Horror stories? That's kewl. Start free writing in what people feel is a creepy place; the lake or pond at night, closet, dark bedroom, try the bathroom at night.
It can be a great start to your rough draft.
Good luck

EDIT: Damn! I thought I was going to be first. oh well.

I don't read vampire stories, but I can totally understand writers block.

When I have writers block I find it helps to go back and review what I've already written... but since that wont help you (starting a NEW story)

What about just opening a notebook, closing your eyes and writing about WHATEVER pops into your head... and just KEEP writing. Eventually you will walk into a character that inspires a whole story.

as for specifics, seeing as I'm a writer too, I find it impossible for me to give out ideas when they are so hard to come by. I'll save my ideas for my future books. That and I don't read horror.
