Is there a word for when a character has the same name as the title of the book?


For example, in Macbeth, by Shakespeare, the main character’s name is Macbeth. I think I’ve heard of this word before but I can’t seem to remember it…

    Titular character, title character, or eponymous.

    For example:

    “In Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet, Prince of Denmark,’ the titular character’s father’s ghost appears.”

    “The title character in Sir Walter Scott’s ‘Ivanhoe’ is a displaced knight fighting during the Crusades.”

    “Emma, from the eponymous book by Jane Austen, fancies herself a matchmaker.”
