Is reading pulp fiction better than reading nothing?

Absolutely. It acquires a cult status of its own. Look at the transition that has happened in comics in the past 30 years. I mean graphic novels. It may be pulp, but occaisionally you will find a well thought out, properly crafted masterpiece.
