‘Gulliver’ is basically a satire. Try James Michner, Larry McMurty, John Jakes and W.E.B.Griffin.

In order for a book to be deemed historical fiction, it has to be about a time prior to the time in which it was written. When Jonathan Swift wrote Gulliver’s Travels it took place in current times, therefore, it is not really historical fiction.
Here’s a list of some pretty good historical fiction books:
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zaphon
The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant
Trilogy: The Dark Queen, The Courtesan, and The Silver Rose by Susan Carroll
One Thousand White Women by Jim Fergus
Good luck!

Gulliver’s Travels is satire with no historical basis.
I liked Women of the Silk set in China for historical fiction. My Brother Sam is Dead is set in the American revolution and it’s good.
