Is anyone here who writes fan fiction embarrassed about it? Why?

I love writing fan fiction. It has been one of my obsessions for about 3 months now, but i realised the other day that i would just about die of shame if any of my friends or family found out that i read/write it. Does anyone else feel like this? Or am i just being oversensitive about what other people would think?
(I dont mean if they read what i wrote, just the fact that they would know i wrote it would be humiliating.)

Well I’ve been thinking about writing some twilight fanfic but I don’t want to because I may be mistaken for one of those insanely annoying twilight fan girls. Yes I hate you girls, and you hate me.

I write fan fiction of video games. But only my friends have read it. I like doing it, and it doesn’t bother me at all.

I’ve never wrote a fan-fiction story before, but I was reading a few today and well… they aren’t half bad, some of ‘em at least. I want to write my life away, and it’s always hard to find yourself an idea. But, you know what? I think fan-fiction is a perfect way to begin your writing career. Sure, you base your story off another persons idea/creation, but it will help you improve your writing skills.

If I ever begin writing fan-fiction I would not be embarrassed by it. I would probably write a parody of Twilight at first (cause that book is completely idiotic, and humourous might I add), and move into more complicated things. I’m sure I would hand out the web address and wait for reviews, not only judging the story, but my writing as well. And if people like it, then I’d move into more complicated things, like my own story- though I am working on two right now.

So, never be ashamed. If you’re writing something a little uneasy and for an adult audience, then maybe you’d keep it a bit of a secret, but if it’s just something for fun, then tell everyone.

In the end, you’re only helping yourself spark an imagination, and English skills.

    Chow :)

I can’t write fanfic cos i can never get the characters right, but i love to read it. It’s one of my favourite things to read, along with some very good authors on fictionpress.com
