I’m writing a novel and need help with names?
I’m writing a novel and I need a website that will give me names used between 1800 and 1900. If someone could help me that would be excellent. Also, i have already tried www.behindthename.com and they weren’t much help.

Surnames would be no different than today. I suppose it depends on what geographic location you’re focused. For Great Britain, for example, I think that browsing through a few Charles Dickens books may prove quite helpful.
You may also try checking out some genealogical sites, and don’t forget the Mormon sites.
Good luck.

Try old movies or even old books. That might give you can idea of names from 1800 and 1900. Maybe try google and type 1800’s name and see what they give you. Or try history books.

Look into some of Jane Austins books. Also a lot of names used today are those from long ago.

United States Census for that time 1800-1900. I would recommend switching sir names and given names so that they are truly fictional.

The Mormon geneology stuff should be a good place to look, as well as the census.
I would also suggest going to your local historical library (if you have one) and taking a look at the microfisch/microfilm there. It might provide you with other information on that time period as well.
