I need some poetry/song ideas to get through this horrible writers block?

Ok, so i’ve been going through quite the writers/art block. I’ve really felt like writing a poem that can tell a story. (if you ever write songs or poems you know exactly how i feel right now.) and im really drawing a blank. I’ll admit, i have forcing myself to express myself when i don’t have anything strong enough to really express, so i REALLY REALLY need your help.

But please no love stories. I want really emotion, and love is so complicated yet so simple to explain. i really want something with meaning. (other than love. those are so common don’t you think??)

Just curious, have you considered any of the following ideas for a new story / artistic angle:

–Writing short stories? I have written a few of these, non-published though :)
–Writing period stories or historical fiction, set in certain points in the past? (Medieval, Victorian, etc.)
–Writing stories tailored to a certain genre, such as Fantasy/Thriller, etc.?
–Writing a story based on events from own life / experiences?

Good luck! Hope that you are able to get over the writer’s block

[EDIT]: Sorry, re-read your question again and it looks like you may be more interested in poetry ideas for stories rather than writing itself…again sorry for the confusion! I actually do have some poems in several of my short stories — if you would be interested in seeing a sample, please feel free to use the Yahoo Q&A e-mail feature to let me know, and I’d be happy to send you a sample in case it might help. Again best of luck, and hope everything works out for you!

I shall take your words and my own to create a poem, then you will see that the block is no longer there.

Write everyday, keep a notebook, go back and read it when you feel low or blocked. Write for at least 10 minutes, do not edit yourself. This is a teaching by a very wise woman who showed me some light.

    I need poetry,
    illumination,
    ideas to take me up
    the golden steps
    into the celestial land
    of the muses.

    There, I cry, take
    from me my heart,
    my soul, but do
    not bind me in this
    black hole
    of wretchedness
    where
    no dreams live.
