How to get rid of writers block?
There’s this short story competition that I enter every year but this year I have really bad writers block. I cannot think up any ideas/plots for a short story. I have ideas for novels, but nothing that could fit into a short. Also, I am currently writing two novels and was going well but have become stuck on what to write next. I feel I am just padding out the story with rubbish to meet the word count and cannot think of anything interesting/entertaining or don’t know how to put the few goods ideas into words to make them sound good.
I should’ve mentioned I have had writers block for about 2 weeks. I have never had it for this long before and usually leave writing for a day or two and I’m fine.

Just try to take a break and don’t think for a while, maybe take a nap and a bubble bath and start fresh again.

Take a break from it for a day or two, and unclutter your mind.

Rest, take a break from writing.
Go for a long walk around where you live and really observe people and what they’re doing. Go to a cafe and jot down a few things you saw. The people you watched could inspire a story or spark your imagination. Try making up their life story. It always works for me anyway.

One way to get rid of writers block is just take a piece of paper and write anything that comes to mind. Another method I like to use is listening to music. Music is really inspiring.

Try opening your mind, all the negative thoughts of not being able to think are blocking your ideas.
Maybe go for a nice walk, and try and think about characters, and plots. It should come naturally, don’t think too much about it, try not to over think. =]

I Don’t Think You Really Can Just ” Get Rid Of ” Writer’s Block. Try Doing Something Else That Takes Your Mind Completley Off Of The Short Story And An Idea Will Come To You. Other Times You May Just Be Over Thinking It.

You can’t really get rid of it….it’s human nature to have it.
You just need inspiration, look around your surroundings for ideas….it might be of great help to ya.
Also, don’t keep thinking you have writer’s block or else you will have more severe writer’s block, so just concentrate, and try not to stress out so much. The more stress you have, the less you think properly and creatively.

Try to think outside the square
leave it for a while and come back to it, get out to refresh, try different approaches.

Just don’t dwell on it, the more you worry about it the more it will become an issue. Try meditation, all it takes is sitting comfortably, breathe in and out through your nose and relax, it will come eventually.

The classic advice about getting past writers block is to write smaller, meaning that if you are blocked, pick only a small portion of your subject to begin your writing. If nothing still suggests itself, take a still smaller topic, etc. Eventually, you may be left with nothing but your thumbnail to write about, and you’ll notice it has a few ridges, needs some trimming, and is prone to hangnails…
Another trick to getting past writers block, is to use blocks to do rewrite. Most writers hate rewrite, but it is better than being blocked. And often, in rewriting a partially completed project, we see that we have, indeed, painted ourselves into a block, and that by rewriting, we are able to get a fresh handle on the topic or story, and proceed in a better way.
