Sorry to hear you have writer’s block. Whenever I don’t want to write, I tell someone what I’m working on. The simple act of talking, processing my ideas if you will, gets me more organized and excited. I also write down notes throughout the day on my book– well-worded sentences, ideas, etc. Sorry– I know those aren’t revolutionary suggestions.

Ok, first things first, don’t finish a novel unless you enjoy it. But I think you already knew that otherwise you wouldn’t be asking this question..

But I’ve gone through this too, and the way I finally turned my attitude about writing around was I changed some aspects of it. You have to see the pieces of your story you fell in love with at the beginning and enhance them and focus on them. Also, reread what you’ve already done. Sometimes I feel like my writing is so mediocre, but when I set it down, and then come back and reread it, I find myself thinking, “wow! genius!” And then I find myself so excited to keep it going. If you’re lacking inspiration then I would suggest finding pictures of people online who look like your characters look to you. I do that sometimes and with the help of the paint application, I make a background pertaining to my story. Then whenever I get on my computer, I see my characters and I visualize my story. It’s fun and it helps a lot.
Be creative and above all, enjoy what you do. If what it takes is a complete rewrite of your entire story to fire you up again, do it. Because once you finish it you’ll be more proud of it than if you had left it alone in it’s inspirationless state.
have fun and good luck!
