I'm 38 with two published books and I can't imagine having writers block. My problem seems to be I have too many stories and I can't keep up. I'm flitting from a romantic mystery where right now I have a moment where the hero and heroine might get it on and then I read a really great line from my fantasy with my fallen angel and I'm determined to finish that up when all of a sudden the witch I created decides she wants me to work on her chapters and in the back of my mind is this historical character who is really pissed because she's been on the back burner going on four years. Not to mention the science fiction story I want to finish typing because it's already written and then I've got an urban that needs editing and two more contemporaries that I left hanging at a moment that I no longer even remember.

--- Everytime I finish a new book I want to write a story in that genre. I want to be witty or dark, serious, or whimsical, I want to write a story with no sex or lots of erotica and then there are times like the one I'm going through at this moment where I don't want to write another thing. I look at them all and go on Y!A or answer interview questions or work on my myspace or do anything that attaches me to real life because I live in those worlds. I forget what it's like to write because I love it and not to meet a deadline or for submission or for a dollar but because I can.

--- Don't confuse block with frustration. I get depressed, tired, manic, silly, and cabin fever and the laptop and my writing is a pain. I was given two months to write a speech. I did it in a few hours a day before the event. Sometimes I don't feel like thinking so much and writing sometimes is a chore. Try to be friends with the characters. Let them tell you a story instead of you forcing them into one. That may be all you need, is to read a little to get some ideas and to breathe a bit so that they will flow.

Keep writing! Sound crazy? It isn't. Write about having writers block. Soon you'll find yourself with a new story idea or be able to continue with your current project. Good Luck!
