How may I know if a poem has a right’s holder and if so, how may I contact that person?

I want to choose a poem to make a short film for children and need to find out about its rights before I start working on it.

  1. Nathan D Says:

Contact the publisher of the poem.

  2. ?Christian_?_Friend? Says:

like the gut above me said, find the publisher, that will help!

Every decent poem is going to be owned by someone. The trick is to find out by whom, and find out to what level they are restricting the use of the poem. Most poetry is available for non-commercial purposes. If you are going to use this strictly for a home production with no commercial purpose, you’ll be fine. If not, the next step I would take is to find the latest book the poem was published in and contact that publisher.
