How helpful have you found creative writing classes in focusing your writing?
I’m entertaining the idea of writing a memoir, but I’m finding it hard to even know where to begin. I could take a course at the community college, but I’m young and $200 is quite pricey for a class that has the potential to be completely futile.

So long as the course has a workshop component, it’s not likely to be completely futile: sharing and getting feedback on your work can be incredibly valuable. Before you do make the investment, though, you might want to look around for writers’ groups in your area, or ask if you can sit in on a course to make sure the instruction’s focused on what you want (or at least that the professor’s open to student input).
