A Myth is a story concerning the origins of the world.
For example a story that explains why the sun rises in the east and sets in the west.
Good Luck….

A myth answers the question of why we have something or how something began. Dictionary definition for myth; a traditional story by unknown author with a historical basis, but usually explains natural phenomena, the origin of man, customs or behaviours of a people. So, it’s much like an old legend with a bit more fantasy in the story. Decide what you want to explain, why the sun rises in the east, why frogs live in mud, why coyotes chase and eat rabbits but not snakes. why dog’s sniff each other to say hello…hahaha. Seriously though, Native peoples of the Americas have plenty of these stories as do tribes of Africa. Many of them center on animals and why they do what they do or where humans came from and how we got here…tho’ that’s complex for a short story.
Your instructor should have told you what style format was necessary for the assignment. But you shouldn’t be writing more than a short story, a paragraph or two with no need for citing anything.
However, if that’s not the case for your particular assignment I’d say use MLA which is what English major’s use.
