How do you publish a poem or book?
I have been told that I have an “amazing talent” in writing. I have wrote a poem which I feel confident of. Where do I go to publish it? Do i need more then one poem? Also what are the chances of actually getting a poem or novel published?

Most people with “amazing talent” know that it’s “I have written”.
Just write. One poem? Nobody’s that good that instantly. You may well become an amazing writer, but there’s no way that you are already, not with that little writing practice behind you. Worry about publishing after you’ve been practicing for a couple of years at the very least.

Amazing talent is not all that you will need to get published, specially with poems.
Go get yourself a copy of the latest Writer’s Market. There, it lists several agents that will take care of looking for publishers.
And if you wish for your poem to be published alone (meaning the book only contains your poem), you need to have more than one and more than 10. But this is unlikely for a beginner.
More or less your poem will be published with other poems.
Novels on the other had are extrmely difficult to get published. My advise, finish a book, problem things later.

You may get one poem published in a collection, book of various new writers, but as a general rule, you will need more.
However a publisher will often cherry pick some of your best work for collections anyway, before you get your own collection.
I would suggest you have a look at poem books in your genre, they should have the publishers name and address inside the cover, then it’s just a case of sending it off.
