How do I start writing a novel, with 3 kids and a husband?
I Have 6 book ideas and a movie script, and when I tell my family my ideas they get so excited, saying I should get started, but everytime I sit down to write I get overwhelmed and anxious. I need some structure. Do anyone out there no what I’m talking about.

You need to seat aside time EACH DAY that is for you and you alone. Have your husband take the kids out and write when the house is empty.

this is going to sound really basic but you should brainstorm. just take out a piece of paper and write down the basic ideas that you want to write about and before you know it you’ll be so caught up in these amazing ideas that you have that you’ll just start adding details.
this is the way i begin all of my papers, novels, essays. (i’m a creative writing major)

structure my ass…
sorry you don’t need structure you need to be bored lol…
you can write unless you’re bored, you need the pen and paper / computer with you (pen and paper’s lighter) and then you need to be so bored that there’s brain space for creativity ^_^…
so lock yourself in a room, preferably with a nice but boring view lol…
and write ^_^…

I understand what you’re talking about (at least I think). I think if you just set aside some time in the day, like maybe an hour, with no distractions, no kids, and no husband, just you and the book you’re writing and just write. Keep the flow going, don’t answer the phone, don’t check you’re e-mail, just write. If you get writer’s block sit and just think or ask you’re friends and family where to go next. Always remember the readers know what’s best, they will be the ones reading it eventually!. But it all depends on what works for you. Hope all goes well!

Sure do!Staring at all that blank white space can be duanting, but try this, write a scene(Maybe it’ll end up in the stroy, maybe not)that gives you a sense of who the characters are, what they like, etc.I usually do outlines like this to make them real to me,right down to thier favorite color.if they become real for you, they’ll be real for you readers. The most imortant thi ng isSTART WRITING!Pick a time when you can do it without interupption, that’s best!

You will have to tell your family that you need time to work. Try not to feel guilty. Hopefully, your husband will help out with the kids!
Enroll in writing classes at your local community college and attend writing conferences…both are great ways to network and meet other writers. Also, join a critique/plotting group. Being around other writers is important. They understand what you are going through. Also, read as many books on writing as you can. You will get ideas that will make you less anxious and your writing time will be more productive. Here is a great one: A Novel Approach to Writing/Lights! Camera! Fiction! by Alfie Thompson.
You will eventually figure it out and sit down and start writing.
Good luck!!

The best way to find out where your ideas go is to just start writing. It may take you some time to discover what is the most productive technology for your writing: Computer, pen and paper, journal, typewriter, etc.
Once you have the setting (library, den, office, outside on the deck/porch, your bedroom), your family needs to leave you alone once and a while. Dad can take care of the kids every now and then. If you were living alone, only you would have to provide the environment in which to write, but when you live with other people, they are part of your writing process as well, whether they want to be, or you want them to be.
Good luck!

I always feel overwhelmed when I start to write. It’s not just a cliche that you just have to sit down and start writing. Most of what you initially write will not be the caliber of what you want to express, but soon your mood and imagination should kick in and ideas will surface. Remember that you will be editing your work several times before you’re satisfied with it and that’s the reason for the delete key.
Try to relax and best wishes on your writing,

I stay up late, like til at least midnight every night, because after everyone else is asleep I can work, but I am fine with 5 or 6 hours of sleep on an ongoing basis. Opposite that but really the same is to get up a half hour or hour early when it is still quiet.
Lunch time writing break instead of food.
Another way is to come up with your ideas while driving and speak them into a recording device.
Use music to get your creativity going, I find that classical or celtic music works well for me, I ususually use instrumental or something like Enya or John Williams but if you are writing say a part where there is a murder you might want to listen to something stronger or instrumental jazz. Try it and see the effects.
