Buy yourself a book called The First Five Pages by Noah Lukeman. The first five pages are the most important part of a book or story. Often, a reader doesn’t even read that much before they make a decision about your work. Your first five pages have to grab the reader and pull him into the book. The first sentence has to be unique and fascinate.
“Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Le-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.”
Read that. When Nabakov wrote that – he was DARING you to put that book down. And you can’t. Pax-C
