How do I go about selling short stories?

I have quite a few short stories I would like to sell. However, I have no idea how to go about doing so! The pieces span several genre’s including horror, mystery, romance, and science fiction. Should I get a literary agent for this (keep in mind they are all short stories)?

you can try selling some to magazines who publish short stories, they are always looking for new material. The Writers and Artists year book as a good source for info on this type of thing and more.

i think you should address to an editor, or something. anyway it shouldn’t be so hard. you just publish them and then you get a lot of money, assuming that the stories are good of course.

Get a copy of the Writer’s Market, look for specific magazines that might accept your genre, and submit by following their guidelines explicitly.

Check out magazines from a retail outlet that could accept your style and topic of writing.

Also consider locating a literary agent that might accept your genre and do the same. Chances of securing representation is slim to none, but you must start somewhere.

I wish you success, but expect a lot of rejections.

You may want to go to Amazon and look at the new kindle and see if you can publish your short stories there. This is the new venue of books and its amazing and Green to boot!

    Go to these sites…

You will find hundreds of magazines, zines and websites to send your work to. It is not an easy sell as one of the answers above seems to imply. There will be many rejections, but that’s all part of the business.

    I wish You luck.
