How come when a famous poet writes crap, it’s considered to be a “work of art”?

I posted this question before, but some people got confused. Basically all i’m saying is that there are a lot of poems that sound really poetic, but have absolutely no meaning. How come whenever an amateur poet writes crap, no one understands it. But when a famous poet writes crap, it’s analyzed and it turns into a work of art?

Well, meaningless poetry becoming famous is a lot like when abstract modern art becomes a… “work of art” when it’s just a dot of red on a white canvas. Sometimes it’s not the work itself that makes it famous, but the work when compared to society, to the time period, to the artist’s previous works and the general “story” or history behind the art. I can splatter paint on canvas, but Jackson Polluck will always be considered the famous artist who created a work of art with paint splatter. His paint splatters depict NOTHING, but it still says something about art at the time, about what art means and about how people see art.

It’s kind of infuriating, but it sort of makes sense.

Maybe it’s because you don’t understand the true depth of the poem. A poem that you feel is crap could have a whole nother meaning for a different person. It’s really hard to judge something like that.

At some point in time, the famous poet was also writing crap. The writer of the crap needs to keep writing and refining so that what s/he is saying becomes more apparent to the public. Public readings of his/er poetry will also help to gain recognition. Once one is recognized, people start to analyze and comment on the work. When they decide the current stuff is good, then the earlier stuff has a chance to strut it’s stuff. This applies to poetry, art, and all things artistic.

because the poets are famous. it’s like picasso
if u have proven u can do it right, then u can do it in your own style.
if poets write a piece of crap every once in a while, people will attack it and MAKE a meaning. and all poems have meaning whether u gave it a meaning or not.

    Because my dear
they are published, have an audience and therefore even their crap is deemed cultured.
Until you are a known in the world your great work will never amount to their crap, so do not hold your breath…
